Re: CART Extreme Challenge ROUND 3 - 15 October 2015
I did some off line practice and it is rather tricky to follow a car around the corners, loosing some grip at the back.
I will set the server for 20 minutes practice, 10 minutes qualifying, 20 lap races and cycle it through all the time. This way we can get a feel for our first league oval race on Thursday. So if you can't get in on server, it is most probably in a race, wait longest 10 minutes and join the guys.

Re: CART Extreme Challenge ROUND 3 - 15 October 2015
Is it just me or does the aero model work backwards while drafting?
The front is supposed to lose grip when in close proximity of the car ahead, not the back
Well, it does make for some fine "MOM, GET THE CAMERA" moments if you keep on the gas and drift the entire corner

I also found the back rather gets lose, but it is surprisingly easy to catch when it does break away.
Server will be up and running after tonight's GT3 race then we can start testing.

Re: CART Extreme Challenge ROUND 3 - 15 October 2015
So, as we got Full Course Yellows in this game, I think we need to clarify the procedere. This is the procedere :
1. When the SC comes out, in the upper left corner the yellow flag symbol will blink. Track Order is frozen then, so you are not allowed to pass unless somebody spins himself. It's not needed to run at full speed anymore.
2. As soon the leader crosses the S/F Line after the Full Course Yellow has been called, the SC should be close in front of him. Everyone has to lineup behind. You are not allowed to pass at all. Always keep the distance short enough otherwise you might get a warning or penalty.
3. Pits are open all the time! On oval tracks, you will be told when the pits are open. This means you can pit in every lap under caution! After your pit stop you have to catch the end of the field, even if the green flag is about to come out. If you don't manage it, you probably lose a lot of time.
4. Caution Period should be around 3 laps in most cases. It will affect your strategy for sure.
5. As soon the SC Lights turn off, the leader is allowed to decide about the speed and acceleration point for the restart. It's up to him. As soon the green flag comes out, the race is open again.
If you want to try it yourself, start a race at Montreal 1988 (there it works very good) - 5 cars are enough - spin one of the cars in front. SC should be called immediately. Then follow the procedere. If needed, turn off damage for testing purposes.

Re: CART Extreme Challenge ROUND 3 - 15 October 2015
I have to excuse myself from this round.. I have an evening function that may or may not end in time. If it was a normal circuit I'd join in if I was on time, but being an oval, and with no oval experience since the days of Nascar 2003 , I think it requires some practice and car setup tweaks which I'm unable to put in beforehand. I think it's going to be an interesting race. Have fun guys!

Re: CART Extreme Challenge ROUND 3 - 15 October 2015
A reminder that the safety car will deploy if someone hits a wall or there is a crash. It will stay out until ALL cars are ready to go, so just follow the on-screen instructions. Watch for a flashing yellow flag on the top left of your screen and SLOW DOWN. A full course yellow means no one can overtake you.
The game will tell you when the pits are open during safety car deployment.
This is the first official oval race, so please take it easy guys.

Re: CART Extreme Challenge ROUND 3 - 15 October 2015
Great race guys, here is my race report:
Qualifying started seeming like it was going to be simple, with a 0.4 gap to second place, ended up a fiersome contest between me and Dereck trying to one up each other, finally him getting the best of me. Congrats on that amazing pole time.
Race started pretty calmly, Dereck again found something more than I did and had the speed and confidence to outpace me, I tried to cling on and hope for the best in the draft, but got loose mid corner, had to back up and say goodbye for the day. I was outpacing everyone else by a consistent 0.5 a lap, so I just settled into a calm pace and turned laps, content with my 2nd place. First caution comes out and after pit rotation I end up in 4th behind Paul, knowing that I had the pace to get to 2nd again and with my pitstop out of the way, I try to get away cleanly and make short work of the two guys in front of me as well as the two lapped cars ahead of me, Paul misses the start, I pass him on the outside (which is legal) and the server decided to black flag me. From that point on I was on tilt, I served the stop and go, putting myself a lap down and out of contention for any place I deemed satisfying, and just started turning laps like I was possessed by the devil, I passed most of the field in a not so delicate manner, making contact with two cars. After the contact with Valera (which may have caused the second yellow) I decide it's time to park it and avoid more carnage.
Congrats on the winners, thanks for the race and sorry for the road rage
And Christo, could you please change my name in the sign up list?

Re: CART Extreme Challenge ROUND 3 - 15 October 2015
Joao, the name has been changed.
Well now, that was different!
For a first official race on an oval track, I thought it went very well and was happy with the start and the way the drivers behaved during the safety car periods.
Lots of fun when we all bunched up again behind the safety car and keeps you on your toes.
Sorry to Dirk for the contact on one corner when I tried to overtake on the inside, at that speed, the car turns a lot slower and I was under-steering at that point. At least, no damage.
Thank you to all drivers that took part and well done to podium, you guys drove well.
A special well done to Paul on his first podium, great drive.
See you all next week.

The safety car and yellow flag caution stages really throw a new dimension to the game... makes for interesting strategy changes. I like it a lot.
Congrats to Gustav and Paul for your finish positions. Well done to everybody who can finish the race.
Joao, tu es um bom piloto tambem. Pena com a tua situacao...

After reviewing your video of the race, some things I noted during the race that could be atributed to netcode were actually your inputs:
1st - when I was behind you you would keep swerving and couldn't hold a line, this was most notable in the start/finish anything-but-straight, where you would go up and down the banking like you had the racetrack all to yourself.
2nd - your lack of positional awareness is astonishing, I made 3 moves, the first two were very close to corner entry and I had to back out of it out of fear of getting run over, the third was at the start/finish straight, where I had to change directions twice because you were swerving and, therefore, blocking. I finally make a move to the outside leaving you plenty of room and me not so much and you decide to run up the track to setup corner entry without even noting there was a car in the way - result, your right rear runs into my front left and an early retirement for both of us.

Martinez, to be honest I did not prepare for this race, there was no time and went straight online.

What I was talking about is basic stuff, you at least need to know how to control the car and be aware the location of other drivers.
I admit I wasn't on my best behaviour, but still...
