Hi everyone! I'm inika101! I once upon a time raced here with you guys! That was back on gtr2. Unfortunately I had to take a break from sim racing for while. But I'm back! I've got the bug Very Happy I race RC cars and I'm a huge motorsport fan. I can't wait to start driving here again! I've just got a couple  of questions for everyone.
1) My current wheel is garbage. Its fine for now but it's not great. So if anyone can recommend me an affordable but at least somewhat competitive wheel that would be great. I've been looking around for a driving force gt but I just don't have the money right now.
2) I see that gsc is available on steam. I'm looking to get it on steam because it is relatively cheap when it's on sale. But I've heard claims that steam causes issues with modding?
3) I've read through all of your season that's you've got on here. Can I enter the season now? I see that you've already started.
4) I'm fairly confident in my racing ability but I'm by no means very fast. So which series can/should I enter?
Thanks everyone! I can't wait to start racing!

Hi Inika
Welcome back my friend.
Your questions......
1. Wheels I'm not sure about. Denis and Christo would be able to help you with that. Any of the guys really.
2. None of us use the Steam version (or very few). The stand-alone game works just great. Easier to use and you can have a few installs at once. One for testing and one for league and also a vanilla backup.
3.You may enter at ANY time. Any series. Just write in the next event thread and you in.
4. We run Open wheelers on Saturday evenings and Tin-Tops on Wednesdays. Most of us do both. Keeps you busy!  Razz
Try both if you really want to have fun.
Anyway, welcome again and hope to see you on track asap.

PS: I just remembered your real name. Good to see you again! lol!

I see what your saying about getting the standalone. I'll see you guys out on track as soon as I can get a hold of gsc. Thanks for the help Very Happy

Hi there, and welcome back! Im sure you will have a blast.

All your questions, ok wheel...DFGT is the best wheel for its price, i have a second hand one if you in Cape Town and wanting one. Think i am finally ready to part with it, held on for ages as a backup. The Logitech Momo is cheap second hand too, and for GSCE is still a great option.

As Kevin says, dont get the Steam version, you cant change the Steam version .exe so this means no extras like the GID hud or modding files becomes a issues with multiple mods.

What wheel are you using now, maybe it can be optimized to work better? We can always try help tweak settings for you.

Sorry Denis not in cape Town. Up here in Joburg. The wheel I've got now is some El cheepo that I picked up last year when my actual wheel broke. I cant even remember what wheel that was.

I'm not sure what brand it is but it has the word 'ignition' on the middle button, where the GT button would be on a DFGT.

The actual wheel is okay for the most part. My biggest issue is the brake pedal. If I press it full, it does not read full on the game controller properties nor in any sim. I tried opening the pedals to see what was going on, but there's no way of getting into them short of breaking the plastic.

Hahaha damn that does sound bad! Id say if you on a tight budget look for a Momo black wheel, you can get them for R200 and up and well only a 240 rotation the wheel is decent and the pedals good enough to be competitive.

DFGT is a momo basically with more buttons and more rotation. Some sims are more suited to 900 wheels some to 270/240...which you can set a 900 to anyway. On a modern sim that truly supports 900, you will be slower on a 240/270 wheel. Older engines like rFactor/GSCE which use the Gmotor2 engine a older wheel is still awesome.

Thankfully GSCE you can adjust steering lock to compensate for steering rotation, unlike some modern sims even like Assetto Corsa which you have no steering lock adjustments.

Basically it depends on your budget...Momo for cheap budget, DFGT for a bit more, and a G27 or Thrustmaster if you want to spend more still.

Another thing to consider is what cars you prefer..formula cars are better on low rotation wheels, ie i set 2nd and 3rd fastest time in the world on F1 2010 on my Momo black, i was slower on a G25 at the time. Touring cars or tin tops usually 320 to 540 is good.

In GSCE i run 320 rotation for touring cars and most cars but 220 for the Formula Reiza cars.

Thanks for the info Denis. I'll have a look around. I drive all kinds of cars really. I mostly drive GT cars, but really anything. I'm not too particular about the steering lock. At this point I just want something that will let me get a car around the track lol!

I've had a look around and found a momo for R670. Seems a bit steep. What do you think a second hand momo should go for?

That is extremely steep...R200 to R300 is a good fair price for a Momo no more than R500. You can get a DFGT from R500 and up.
