Re: SGT500 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 3 AUTOPOLIS 21st JAN
Had a good evening....
21 Starters, which was a new record.
R1
My qualify wasn't the best but got away cleanly at the start and moved to 10th by the third turn. Not an easy track to overtake and with a string of cars in front of me, just stayed with them. Pitted on lap 10 and even added extra fuel. Came out in 8th place and drove the rest of the race more or less on my own. Ran out of fuel as I crossed the line..lucky.
R2
Good start and after first lap, had Red Spider behind me by 1 sec. We drove the whole race like that, no time to relax and he drove very well to come close a few times to overtaking me. Held on to finish 7th overall and 1st in the AM Class.
Thanks to all the drivers that took part. See you at SUGO.

Re: SGT500 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 3 AUTOPOLIS 21st JAN
Yes, it was great to see such a big field
It seems that I am getting slower at every race compared to the aliens (and this time I had trained offline at least) but to fight in the midfield can be big fun as well.
R1 I was wery happy, drove without mistakes and had a few nice fights, some won, some lost. Thanks to a few overtakes and a few mistakes from the frontrunners I got up to P5, until Razor passed me out of nowhere in the middle of the last S with 2 laps to go.
R2 I decided to finally use launch control, but I had a longish 1st gear, so the car lost a lot of RPMs and basically got almost stuck. I was consequently hit by a couple of drivers who couldn´t avoid me. The rest of the race was quite frustrating with a damaged car, too many mistakes and a few clashes here and there, including a driver rejoining the track whom i just didn´t manage to avoid, sorry. Then as I was like P13 with 2 laps to go, the car spun on an internal curb and I gave it up
See you too at SUGO (which means tomato sauce in Italian by the way )

Re: SGT500 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 3 AUTOPOLIS 21st JAN
What an amazing turn out here, great stuff seeing new faces on track and makes for a bit more strategy in the races.
I started off not really liking this track, but as i got more familiar with it it grew on me. I dont think it suits these cars, but the track i some other cars could be a hell of a lot of fun!
For some reason i lost pace the last 2 days driving here, and quali for both races i struggled to a lucky 3rd in both race starts i think.
Race 1 seemed to be going well, managed to pass Christo and build a lead, then pitted and came out in front all going well till the car snapped in a corner leaving me lucky to escape the sand traps. I was rather frustrated after that and held on to finish 2nd. Well done to Christo you deserved to get that win great pace.
Race 2 started similar, but i had a fast starting fast qualifying Miguel in my sights this time. I seemed to have much better first lap pace, so thought i would try attack while i could, and i think on lap 2 or was it 3...Migs had a slide moment sliding wide so i went up the inside, only then his car snapped towards me, thankfully the damage was not too bad for either of us and we both carried on. After pits stops settled i had a FAST charging Christo hot on my heals, in one lap even taking 1.5 seconds out the gap to me. So i was watching the times and gap working out if i could make it and it was going to be tight. Last lap i was able to hold in there, but excellent charge fro Christo and a superb 3rd place podium for Steve. Well done Steve really good to see after all your hard work you finally get a good result. Hope this is the start of many more for you!
Sugo in these cars i imagine is going to be super tough, but lets see how it goes!

Re: SGT500 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 3 AUTOPOLIS 21st JAN
Thanks Denis for the kind words Also thanks for the compliments from Christo and Marco, I really appreciate it.
In the first race I was expecting carnage in the midfield where I qualified, but we had a great start. At the tight left midway one of the cars ahead spun out, and I slowed right down to squeeze past on the far left. Unfortunately the cars moved and I got clipped off the track, having to feed back in at 17th. I had a great race overtaking cars to eventually finish 7th.
In the second race I qualified in the same space, but had a clear getaway. I spent about 4 laps with Marco breathing down my back - great racing for so long, so close but with no contact. I managed to finish 3rd - for a lap or so I thought I was keeping up with Christo but that bubble burst pretty quickly and the gap opened.
I really enjoyed the track. There was something really "flowing" about it.

Re: SGT500 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 3 AUTOPOLIS 21st JAN
What a turn out for the race at Autopolis. I did not expect much as I was very sluggish here in the DTM cars. To my surprise I liked the track in the GT500 cars and was within 1 sec of the top guys.
The cherry on the cake was to put my car on pole in R1. With a longer 1st gear I also lost ground with the start so all I could do was to chase Denis. Slight mistakes in some corners kept me too far from Denis for an attack until he lost it in one corner, presenting me with a win. Was great fighting Denis.
Qualifying for race 2 was a disaster, I just could not get a good lap in, leaving me with 5th place on the grid. Luckily I discovered that I used the wrong setup during the warm up session. DAMN FOOL I WAS. At least I could change to the correct setup for the race.
However, I had to fight with Migs before I could chase after Denis and that put him clear with a few seconds. At least I got into 2nd place and finish just behind Denis.
As I said in the chatbox, Steve - you truly deserve a good 3rd place as you put many hours of practice into this one. Well done once more.
Well done to every racer who took part in the event. Fantastic to see so may guys. Let's keep it clean fun racing - see you all at Sugo.
