WOMAN IN F1? Empty WOMAN IN F1?

Post by Kevin 22nd November 2014, 11:38

Here's a thought........

Will we ever see a woman F1 driver? There have been 4 over the years, but none ever made good.
Desire Wilson from Brakpan was the only woman in history to win a Formula One race (Non-Championship) in the 80's sometime I think.
We have female fighter pilots, astronauts etc. so why not F1?
Woman have 30% less muscle than men but I was reading that Susie Wolff tried out the williams car a few weeks ago and was .4 slower than the current GP2 Champion who also tried out!! She was also only .2 slower than Massa at Hockenheim!!!
Maybe someone should suggest they take a few cars from this year after the season and have a short series for the best female drivers in the world. There are a few I could think of who would be pretty good.
The big cosmetic companies could get involved and I'm sure the F1 fan base would grow. At the moment, interest is dropping in F1 and maybe it's a way to bring young fans back.
I know it takes a LOT of money, but think of the revenues for a company who sponsors a female who can hold her own with the guys.
I think the powers that be should seriously check them out.
The likes of Madalena Antas, Maryeve Dufault, Leilani Munter,Ashley Force Hood, Susie Wolff, Courtney Force, Shannon McIntosh, Cyndie Allemann and Danica Patrick would make for a VERY interesting GP.
THOUGHTS?

WOMAN IN F1? Empty Re: WOMAN IN F1?

One of the problems with F1 in general is the cost of the sport. Rookie drivers need to bring huge amounts of sponsorship money with them to get a drive in all but the top few teams. Talent thus plays a secondary role. There are many highly talented drivers that could kick the asses of a lot of the current grid, who won't get a drive because they don't bring enough revenue to the team.

Susie is undoubtedly talented, and she will be more than capable of standing her own if she were to get a drive. But I think with Bernie Ecclestone and his aging fossil mentality, not a lot of rejuvenation and change will happen in F1. He still firmly believes in the old boys club nature of the sport. Not to mention his reluctance to embrace the online world, in favour of the more traditional broadcast television. Let us not forget that he owns the TV rights to Formula 1.

It is interesting to note that there are quite a few women driving in Formula E, along with a host of Formula 1 hasbeens, some competitive GP2 drivers, and worthy contenders in other formulas. The women driving in Formula E are each just "one of the guys", so to speak, with no special treatment or prejudice.

It would be nice if a few female drivers could get on the grid. Lets see what happens in the future of F1.

Suzi Wolf...OMW very nice ne. She can be my driver. LOL

It might take a few years before we do see a female driver as a regular driver on the F1 grid.

I think it's also the stigma that one has to learn racing from a young age - this goes for both male and females. It requires dedicattion from the family as well, I mean as a 4 year old you're not really in it to win it are you? I believe encouragement comes from parents and women can compete if they are determined enough. Again, as Zeedle mentioned, unfortunately costs end up putting a knife through many dreams.
